¡®Lucky¡¯ probably isn¡¯t the first word that comes to mind when you look at motorcycle enthusiast, Trevor, nursing injuries from head-to-toe.
But this chatty Irishman considers himself the luckiest man alive ¨C lucky that his first-ever motorcycle crash was on the Gold Coast, giving him access to the award-winning Trauma Centre team that he credits with saving his life.
After enjoying a Saturday motorcycle ride with a Learner Driver friend in late October, ¡°I saw him safely home to his driveway and left his house at Bonogin,¡° Trevor said. ¡°The next thing I remember, I woke up here three days later.¡±
¡°I know I was in a pretty bad way. Eighteen blood transfusions, and two surgeries straight away on my abdomen and internal organs to stop bleeding.¡±
Over the coming weeks, Trevor lost count of the surgeries to fix his broken bones. Needless to say, there¡¯s a lot of metal holding him together.
¡°Surgeon Martin Wullschleger - I owe that man a debt of gratitude. He¡¯s remarkable,¡± Trevor said. ¡°His team is remarkable.¡±
¡°I was very, very close to the exit of my life. They have been phenomenal. The work the nurses do in this ward is incredible.
¡°If this accident was going to happen, I am glad it happened here and not back in Ireland. This hospital is fantastic.¡±
Trevor is determined to walk again soon and make a full recovery. We wish him the best for the long road ahead.
