The new Robina Hospital Transfer Unit was greeted with smiles all round, among patients and Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ staff alike, when it opened to the public on Wednesday 3 April.
The Transfer Unit represents the final plank of the $16.5 million Robina Emergency Department Expansion project, providing a specialised space to streamline patient flow.
Nurse Unit Manager (NUM) Helena Anne Moore said the Robina Hospital Transfer Unit was a vital service, providing the final step before patients transitioned home or to a nursing facility.
¡°It can also be used as an interim waiting area for patients awaiting bed allocation on admission or an outpatient appointment,¡± Helena said.
¡°Its primary goal is to optimise bed availability in both the Emergency Department (ED) and the wards.¡±
Strategically located at the hospital's entrance, the new unit will enhance access for patients, their families, and caregivers.
It will also serve as the drop-off point for the new patient shuttle bus, which is being supported by the Gold Coast Hospital Foundation and will begin operating 22 April.
¡°Everything has come together for the Transfer Unit and we couldn¡¯t be more excited to be working in our beautiful new space and able to offer the shuttle bus,¡± Helena said.
¡°Throughout the planning process, our team was actively involved, ensuring the Transfer Unit was fit-for-purpose.¡±
This development is part of Å·±¦ÓéÀÖ's commitment to enhancing health care services and ensuring the community benefits from accessible, high-quality medical care.
Patients can be transferred from Monday to Friday, 7am¨C7pm.
